The Story

The story begins with my grandmother, Genada, and her siblings. They had the ability to make everyone feel warm and cared for in a very simple and genuine way. They always made everyone feel included no matter where they were from. This is the inspiration that is the foundation of my own care practice – it’s what I want you to feel and experience while working with me: a genuine, simple, caring connection.

Hi, I’m Gemena Murchison, LBSW

With my background as a licensed social worker and more than 10 years’ experience navigating the healthcare system, I want to carry on my grandmother’s legacy and offer genuine, simple, care to those who need it.

I focus on genuine, simple care.

While going to school to become a social worker, I helped an attorney find individuals without insurance to get them qualified for Medicare and Medicaid. The hospital I worked with often to find these cases, offered me a job as a social worker once I graduated. At that hospital I met a patient who taught me the most valuable lesson about care. One day she started calling me “Doctor” and I thought she simply confused me for someone else. I explained to her, “I’m not your doctor, I’m your social worker.” She replied, “You don’t get it. You look out for me like a doctor should.” And that’s when I finally did get it – when you take someone’s care into your own hands, they want to know that you’re genuinely looking out for them. This feeds into my values of genuine, simple, care.

When I faced my own personal healthcare crisis, it showed me the gaps in the healthcare field such as fragmented care, not knowing the appropriate questions for the doctors to get the answers you need, how to push when not receiving clear answers, and most importantly how confusing and overwhelming the whole process was. I wish I had someone by my side, who could simplify decisions, ready with answers so I could focus on healing. With Genada’s Helping Hands, that is what I do for you.
